the channel 8 popular drama "the golden path" just ended not long ago.
it was a very nice show and truly worth praising mediacorp for.
a stark reflection of the evil in man, the value of kinship and the unpredictables in life.how much are you worth? how much do you value the people around you?were they ever important or did you mind just told you "its ok, you were all that matters?"the show successfully portrayed one of the worst, most beastly behavior of man. how the common dollar we have and use to merely buy goods or satisfy our needs can become the crucial trigger that brings out the most evil in man, shooting away all those that we begins with - the ties between men. sometimes we may wonder or even laugh at such a statement, for money in our everyday lives is merely for convenience and they seem truly harmless. fair enough, they cant talk, cant signal, cant instruct. so how can they for goodness sake drive a man to the beastly extreme? but man, we're forgetful really. they're a convinence to us, but arent they something we cant live without too? try imagine, if one fine day, you lost it all, you cant afford any food, any drink and everything. what would you do? do you seek help from your family/relatives/friends or do you work it your way out? if you'd chose working your way out, do you do it right or wrong?
everyone of us have a evil and an angel in us. often, we got them in control, kept the evil in the lock of mind and only let the angel rules. we learnt to differentiate the right from wrong, the white from the black and understand the true meaning of 'no man is an isle". but sometimes, the lock do break loose and the evil runs wild. it disrupts every peace, show you the victory feel of being the sole winner and makes you see nothing but only you. at such time, the man is no longer the man we knew. the every word he said and every action he does now may well bears a motive which leads to his ultimate goal. everytime he stay still to think, it might be the next evil he's trying to plot. and now even a split second stare from him can send a shiver down your spine. sounds scary isnt it? well, man can goes to such extent, really possible, or may be even worst.
on the thin line of right and wrong, where do you stand?sometimes i wonder, what are these people thinking about in their minds? were they only after the dollars or more than that? if it was only for the dollars, were such an extent needed in the first place, they could've work for it. doesnt sound very difficult isnt it. even fast food restaurant's pay can feed one enough. so what were they after really, was it satisfaction or a kind of excitement they're looking for? do they supposedly derived satisfaction from seeing others suffering, from betraying people and seeing others killing each other like what we term a sicko man? and in the end, what gain do they get? the money, the people and what else. for all these they gain, do they never lost anything in return at all?
looking at the drama, tay ping hui played the character of kaijie. he was a real evil man, blinded by money, hatred and selfishness. he planned, plotted and watched along as his supposedly family and friends walked into traps and died. he did nothing to try to save, but to let it sink further. he even used his own brother and made him insane with the amount guilt he made him bore. his family falls apart, ties got britten, and yet it didnt impact enough for him to realise the wrongs. instead, he went further. he tried killing his own wife for her money, nearly got himself killed, begged forgiveness and spring on other's soft-heartened moment to turn the tables on them. how can a man like this have a heart? well, at the end of the story, he didnt got what he wanted, instead he sort of lost it all. he fled the country, and was killed by another. before he got killed, he called home but kept quiet mostly. was he too ashame to face them or was he afraid of coming back to get punished for his sins? and while on the verge of death, he was struggling to get hold of the wallet which has the photo of him and his wife (lin fei) but he breathe his last before he could do so. did he truly love her for who she is? or is he regretting what all he had done? could he have seen that if he hadnt insisted and let the evil in him ruled that much, everything and everyone could have a much happier ending..
for all that begun, it begins with hate and selfishand all that it ends, it ended with the tears and regretwas it really worth it?
